グループ展「守破離　Homage to Marcel Duchamp」

マルセル・デュシャンの没後５０年を記念した、ギャラリー企画のグループ展。谷穹さん、堀尾貞治さんと私がデュシャンに因んだ作品を出品した。私はデュシャンの主知主義者としての側面に焦点を当て、知の象徴としての「本」を象った作品を構想し、デュシャンの書いた文章や語った言葉によって構成された本と同サイズの作品を作った。ひとつは、「マルセル・デュシャン全著作集」と同サイズの作品であり、もう１つは、「マルセル・デュシャンのインタビュー集」と同サイズの板を８層重ねた作品である。この８層構造の作品は「マルセルについては何も言うまい」というタイトルの、８枚のアクリル板が層を為したジョン・ケージのビジュアル・アート処女作から着想したものである。

The gallery organized a group show commemorating the 50th anniversary of Marcel Duchamp’s death. The three artists who participated in the exhibition, Tani-Q, Sadaharu Horio and I, presented the artworks relating to Duchamp. I took up the aspect of Duchamp as an intellectualist and planned to make the works modeled on“books”as a symbol of intellect. And, I produced some different types of works which were of the sizes as the books consisting of the words from Duchamp were produced. One was of the same size as the book titled“The complete written works of Marcel Duchamp”. Another was the 8-layered work consisting of the plates of the same size as the book titled Entretiens avec Marcel Duchamp (Interview with Marcel Duchamp)”. I created this work, inspired by Not Wanting to say anything about Marcel”, John Cage’s first visual artwork made up of 8-layered acrylic plates.
